The ostrich egg is the largest egg in the world
and can weigh up to 5 pounds, equivalent to about 24 chicken eggs.
They are about 5'' to 6'' in diameter and 6'' to 7'' tall. The
tough shell, at about 1/8'' thick, feels like ceramic. Our eggs
have a small hole drilled in the bottom where the white and yolk
is drained then thoroughly cleaned inside and out. What a great
conversation piece. |

The Ostrich is the only bird with two toes on each foot. They are also very fast! Thier strides can reach between 16 and 23 feet and they can maintain speeds of up to 50 miles per hour for a half hour at a time!
